The Grand Social presents: Limedrop EDITION concept store

10 October, 2011

After much anticipation, Limedrop and The Grand Social will be opening the doors on our pop-up collaboration this Thursday. EDITION will be transformed into a tropical oasis for the next two weeks, with one off exclusives as well as the full Calypso collection available. We had a chat to Nathan about the plans for the store and what's coming up next for Limedrop.

Can you give our readers any hints on what to expect at the pop-up shop?
The pop-up shop will be based around our SS11/12 collection,
‘Calypso’. Think tropical oasis with bright pop colours and a unique use of flora.

You’ve come to be known for your pop-up stores, do you have any plans for a permanent Limedrop store?
A permanent store is definitely something we’d like down track but at the moment pop-ups are really fun. They let us do something different and present each collection a bit differently to the regular retail experience.

You’ve recently launched a basics collection. What made you decide to branch out into that area?
The new range is called Elle De and is made up of black and nude stretch pieces that can be worn underneath sheer statement pieces or just layered with existing wardrobe.

Where were you working before you created your own label?
Clea has worked for companies like Paul Frank, Easton Pearson, Crumpler and Obus and I worked in engineering while studying marketing and management at university.

What made you decide to get into fashion design?
We started toying with the idea of Limedrop while we were at university in Brisbane. We went down to Melbourne and the scene was very supportive and vibrant and we moved down and started Limedrop. We based our first full collection on Clea’s graduating collection.

Where did the name of your label come from?
Clea originally wanted call the label ‘Lime’ but it was too specific and couldn’t be registered so we brain stormed words that could be added to the start or end of ‘lime’ and ‘drop’ stuck.

What is your brand philosophy?
Limedrop aims to deliver playful designs with a focus on clean lines, interesting proportions and an innovative approach to print and colour. Each collection speaks of a unique concept and an ever-expanding range, yet respects past collections and classic styling. We are quickly becoming known as a label that strays from the norm, injecting a sense of fun into each collection while remaining mindful of classic styling.

Tell us about your SS11 collection.
Our Limedrop Calypso Collection is inspired by the wealthy poolside set and tropical island holidays, the collection is a modern twist on fifties prep, exploding traditional silhouettes with exaggerated cuts, colour and print. Vibrant citric hues of melon, tangerine and lemon, neapolitan are punctuated with block colours of electric sapphire and bright pink, set against bright white cotton.

What’s next for your label?
We are really happy with the reaction our recent collections have had here in Australia and we are aiming to start targeting international stores. There are some international trips on the horizon and then maybe looking into a permanent Limedrop shop in 2012.

Limedrop's concept store runs from Wednesday the 12th of October until Saturday the 29th of October, at Edition Store, 214 Crown Street Darlinghurst.
