Sydney-based fashion label Strummer only launched last year but are moving in leaps & bounds, launching their own online store this week at GS yay! Strummer is designed with longevity in mind, creating ageless look inspired by folk music, modern day culture & mystical muses. The result? A collection full of leather, lace, denim & crochet with a classic vintage feel. We are loving the adjustable leather shorts that can be worn high-waisted or at the hips, the crocheted bodysuits & the cute woven leather kicks. We spoke with designer Edwina Hagon to find out more...
Tell us about the creation of Strummer the label:
Gina & I met working at another Sydney fashion label in 2007 & realised we had very similar style & love of culture & music, so we got together & first started making clothes for our friends which was really successful & gave us the confidence to really give it a go. We sold our first range last year & have had a great response so far!
What are the inspirations behind your current collection?
Each range is based around a short story we write. This collection is about a girl who stays with her old aunties for the weekend, while bored she wanders down the path & finds an old chest. In the chest she finds old military attire. She decides to add her own Gypsy flare to the clothes & our collection is a reflection of this happy marriage of military & Gypysy.
Favourite pieces from the collection?
The Freedom Fields Dress, the Sergeant P's Jacket & the Rickitie pants! Can't wait to rock out in those!
Who is the ultimate Strummer girl?
A girl who is confident enough to mix & match her own style & wear it well.
