Limedrop is a label that always thinks outside the box. So when we heard they were working on a new concept store we knew it would be something really special. Did we know they were going to build a greenhouse? No, but we are damn impressed.
The new store opened at Melbourne Central this week and showcases their Spring Summer 2010/11 collection, 'Far Away From Home'. We chatted with designers Nathan Price and Clea Garrick about finding inspiration from insane Japanese concept stores, their summer cabin plans and what they've got in store for next year...

How did you come up with the greenhouse idea?
It was originally suggested by the people at Melbourne Central. It perfectly suited our current Spring Summer collection so we ran with the idea. We're really happy with the way it's turned out. We worked with Pip and Georgia from Wonder on the interior and they designed the amazing racking. We needed something that was flexible and free standing that we could pack down after the concept store and could expand on if other projects come up.

You recently visited Japan, where they take the idea of concept stores to all kinds of crazy places, was this a big source of inspiration for your store?
Our trip to Japan was amazing. We came back from that trip with such motivation to make our spaces reflect what we're about. Presently we're working on streamlining our studio now that the store is all set up. The Japanese have such a great idea of how a space influences your work and life and I wanted to bring that through in our Greenhouse. It's like a little Limedrop oasis.

This is your second amazing temporary store – can we expect to see some more permanent fixtures in the future for Limedrop?
We'd love to have a Limedrop shop but we're not rushing into it. Our boutique retailers are still our primary focus and we need to ensure that our expansion into retail won't effect how we develop collections and look after our current retailers.

What three words would you use to describe your current spring/summer collection 'Far From Home'?
Comfortable yet adventurous.

What’s on the agenda for you guys this summer?
We're pretty much getting ready for next year. We're really excited about AW11 and are all motivated to make next Spring Summer our best collection ever! We will of course try to get away. I'm pretty keen to go up into the mountains to some lovely lakes, hire a little cabin and just get out of the city.

Can you give us any clues what for you have in store for your next collection?
Well the collection is called the Lake House, we've expanded on our prints and are moving towards a bit of an outdoorsy prep look. We're very happy with how it turned out, it's built upon past collections and has a strong Limedrop aesthetic.
