Once banished to the realm of frumpy librarians, the Resort 2011 collections have reclaimed the full-length skirt and reinvented it as one of the hottest new looks of the season. Lanvin and Balenciaga showed full-skirted versions, worn just above the hip, while Richard Nicoll and Yves Saint Laurent went for A-line and tailored options, worn high on the hip and belted. And at The Row (Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen’s line), the skirts were cut above the ankle and layered with shirts and long tops.
How you can wear it: as much as we are kind of drawn to bag lady chic, full-length skirts are most flattering when paired with a delicate blouse, t-shirt or fitted button-up shirt. But don't be afraid to try layering it underneath a long top, which you can belt at the waist for some shape, and team with a denim jacket or leather bomber.
