We just made it into Gary Bigeni’s show on time as the house lights dimmed. We were instantly met with a lovely floaty piece in light beige. As the models came out the clothing progressed through a pastel colour pallet of taupe, orange, pink and lavender. The quintessential Gary Bigeni style, the amazingly pattern made and executed draping silk jersey pieces didn’t disappoint but there were more tailored pieces which were beautiful and we were very excited to see them especially the tailored orange leather jacket.
The stand out for us though was the knitwear. Gary works with the same knitwear company we use in Melbourne but what he does with it is truly amazing. He managed to create sheer two-tone dresses in salmon and grey using fully fashioned knitting techniques and pure wool. I guess that’s what we love about Gary’s work. He takes traditional technologies and techniques, gets to really understand them and then works out how to take it that little bit further.
Thanks Gary, we love you!
