Birthday Suit present debut show with a colourful bang - RAFW guest review from Little Black Book

3 May, 2010

Birthday Suit’s debut show at the Opera House on Thursday night was an exciting step forward for the fledgling label.

The label has become synonymous with vibrant colours and insane prints and this season they drew their inspiration from the exotic tropics – where nature is at its most expressive, where wild parrots roam the skies and the lush rainforest beams with colour and texture.

The theme for the show was set with a beautiful dancer in a stunning winged and jeweled costume, weaving through their air like a dark bird of paradise.

‘Paradise Bound’ explored the beauty in nature, through both texture and colour, while successfully exploring and reinventing the modern dress with digital prints, spandex, satin and intricately interwoven harness tops add depth to other structurally plainer pieces. Key pieces from the collection were the stunning digital bird print dress, and the floral print dress with satin shoulder detailing.

Bold, vibrant block colours worked to break up the digital prints in the collection while brightly-coloured eyebrows, multicoloured makeup and incredible woven rope head pieces accentuated the innovative waist and shoulder detailing throughout.

‘Paradise Bound’ was a successful progression for the label, as they redefine and expand the role of colour, print and detail and prove that as each season passes, Birthday Suit just gets better with age.

The Birthday Suit team celebrated with close friends and family at an after party at Kit and Kaboodle.
