Givenchy's incredible fall 2010 couture collection

Givenchy may have dropped the number of looks in their couture collection by half this season, but what they reduced in quantity they made up for with a tight collection of ten mind-blowingly intricate looks that showcased the most complex couture techniques of lacework, beads and fringing. Moving away from the dark palettes that have ruled their past two couture seasons, Ricardo Tisschi’s Fall 10 collection continued that Gothic sensibility but this time in shades of cream, ivory, gold and a shot of soil brown. Once banished to the realm of frumpy librarians, the Resort 2011 collections have reclaimed the full-length skirt and reinvented it as one of the hottest new looks of the season. Lanvin and Balenciaga showed full-skirted versions, worn just above the hip, while Richard Nicoll and Yves Saint Laurent went for A-line and tailored options, worn high on the hip and belted. And at The Row (Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen’s line), the skirts were cut above the ankle and layered with shirts and long tops. Read more
