Okay so day two has been drama filled! This morning we missed Dion Lee and we are so bummed. Word is out that it was quite possibly THE standout show of RAFW so far and its only bloody Tuesday! Damn!
We hauled arse down to the terminal with, like, no time to make Zimmermann and we were stressed! Lucky bad luck was in the air as the radio crackled in the cab "power outages in the area". In the area? What like, Circular Quay? POWER OUTAGE AT FASHION WEEK??!!!?? What the fuck we thought? Yep. Power outs indeed. The Zimmermann show was canned for like an hour and everyone just milled around looking confused and bummed out. We were kind of relived because we would have missed it otherwise.. Ooops. So reporters and tweeters were running haywire with power out tweets and wondering how the rest of the day would shape up with the hiccup in the schedule.
Then it was Zimmer time Wow; way to make me miss summer and want a high paying job ladies. The collection was as amazing as everyone expected. The reason Zimmermann has such staying power in the industry is clearly a testament to their constantly morphing and sexy style. A collection of dresses ready for any fancy pants party, swimwear to get an eating disorder for and separates that blew our tiny little minds. Such a gorgeous colour palette and some amazing details- criss crossing across the body, developing into full and soft half sleeves... An amazing Vintage floral print in really muted tones and large flowers used in interesting ways that transformed them into a completely different place. No nana tea party in the floral's, they were edgy yet ladylike and supremely classy.
Then we headed downstairs, style shot Ruby Rose and Courtney Africa, who were nice as pie! I gave ruby my cigarette lighter because im cool like that y'all. Fan girl? Maybe. Her Rhiahnnaesque haircut and sick heels won me over. Back up stairs to the Rosemount bar for a chat and a hang with some people and a bit of style stalking and eavesdropping. Then Manning Cartell happened. WE seated ourselves to the softy, classical strains of two girls playing violin and cello? I think it was a cello, I don't know shit about fancy instruments. We patiently awaited the show, avoiding ghosts from the past and talking some shit then BANG. The lights were up and the music was all rock and roll. The swift change in tunes is a good reflection on the varied styles presented in the collection- some very rock chick with a trust fund and some more like normie girl with a trust fun. A fusion of sexy and girly that worked out quite well indeed! I’m in love with the cropped denim jacked with zippers- biker style but in such a hue of denim it could make a hells angel look like a prep school girl. So sweet! Digging hard on the black lace blazer and boxer style shorts. Sheer shorts are sexy but how does one wear them? With balls I assume. Or not. Either way the collection had a little something for everybody and I am a fan. I have been turned!
Then it was lunchtime! As we finally found the fridge with the sandwiches in it I praised the lord. At the register, I noticed a familiar face holy crap, Miranda Otto buying a cookie. She was hungry! Who let’s Miranda Otto get hungry She was in lord of the rings god damn it! The more celebrities I see, the smaller they seem in person. Dear god she was so little! I nearly fainted with star struckedness. Wow. She needed an extra 50 cents for her cookie and I was about 5 seconds away from dumping the contents of my bag on the ground and finding her the elusive 50 cents! But that would be fucking weird right? Turns out, she is the nicest, most easy to talk to human to ever exist. That’s a lie, I didn’t really talk to her because I couldn’t think of anything that wasn’t gay to say so I just smiled and nodded and let Jenna be the normal human. Which she is anyway! Miranda looked so stunning in person I was so in awe of her. But seriously, why are they not even feeding the famous people LOTR for fucks sake! So we got a style snap of her and our lunch and kind of wandered away in a daze of “OMFG Miranda Otto is so gorgeous”. Then we ate. Tasty, tasty food. I love food. Food rules. Miranda Otto at lunchtime rewls. Double rewls. Okay enough fanning out because then it was Zambesi time!
Wow oh wow was Jenna hyped for a kiwi show! I was psyched too, until we swapped jobs and I filmed the show. I swear to god that was the longest show so far, my arm is broken. Amazing show though! Great tunes and really fucking hot male models. Such an amazingly simple and deconstructed but very classy and interesting. The mood of the show changed as the looks did, the music really sets and important tone to shows, even more than you would think! Lots of black and simple understated shades of grey and white with highlights of green and red. Very man style but nothing butch or stupid looking. A great classic colour set that leaves the eye to take in all of the finer, interesting cuts and details. Zambesi is always a fantastic label. Spotted in the front row- Deni Hines, Jonathan Pease, Miranda “best human ever “ Otto and a whole pack of the cities most stylish and trendy. Pip Edwards is one of our targets for the day, she looks so great all the time.
Now we are back at the office, having a mini chill. Then back to The Cargo Theatre for Illionaire, which I am super psyched for.
Love and Rants,
CA and Jenna.

So on our return to the land of the fashionable peeps and creeps we raced in to check out the beautiful Arnsdorf show. Jade Sarita Arnott truely outdid herself, sticking to the so far successful and well adored format of her label's beautiful, clean looks. Lots of gorgeous soft colours and really cool silhouettes. Totally dug the asymmetrical theme so prevalent with the parades so far. Thoroughly impressed with the one sleeved all in one suit, with a collar and a nice low waist. Pretty and androgynous, the collection made me feel so light and lovely. Coral pinks in both a subdued tone and a Miami eye burning bright have popped up all over the catwalks and mixed with black, white and khaki they are working overtime in the chic Olympics. Was kind of ironic seeing the crowd admire so many soft hues when they attended en masse in a sea of black? Nice High waisted soft looking denim in a really lovely shade of blue that cracked the spectrum of shades perfectly. Ahh I am in love with Arnsdorf. If only right? I am interested to see how the shapes and colours look on the average human and away from catwalk lights!
We then retreated back to the office after we received word Ruby Smallbone had dropped in some gear.. Much to our excited squeals! We skipped Wayne Cooper but we hear it was very Wayne indeed, as only Wayne can be!
So, dressed in our finest Ruby, and feeling confident and sassy we headed back to the waterfront and shuffled into our second row seats at Therese Rawsthorne. Jenna and I couldn’t have been more baffled at the people claiming the front row seats and refusing to budge, even when they were clearly not in their seats. Being bumped back from front row would be like getting up for an award at a high school assembly having heard the wrong name! I have officially decided fashion week is like high school but everyone is dressed for the formal everyday. It is kind of intense. Certainly a change from the relaxed and holiday style of Gold Coast Swim, which was more like fashion summer camp.
That said, i'm not crying everything is way cool! Jenna and CA are totally a team and man; we are getting the job done! Jenna has the balls to ask intimidating attractive people for photos and asks them questions. I am way too chicken shit so I just brashly point at them in the crowds and lines haha. So we saw the satorialist and he is a little cool! Get it? Anyway, Therese was amazing; I enjoyed the lack of nipples, which was a nice change. The only time I have seen U-Bra’s and support briefs looking sexy. Lots of soft billowy blouses and white. I loved the music and it was kind of nice to hear a song from start to finish instead of a crazy mash up. So the models chilled down the runway, in to hurry at all, which gave us ample time to soak up the beauty and serenity to the sounds of Animal Collective. When the models all came back out to the pounds of “Heads will roll” by the yeah yeah yeahs, I was pumped again and ready to see the amazing Nicola Finetti!
Unfortunately, the entire evening schedule was running pretty much an hour late, which was horse shit as I had to wait in line behind the worlds most mundane girls who talked about the dumbest shit for the better part of half an hour. It was fucking weeeeeeaaaaak dudes.
But Nicola proved to be worth the wait and totally rocked my world. The celebs were aplenty in the front row- Jonathan Pease, Alex Perry, Lara Bingle and Sarah Murdoch to name a few. They looked pretty psyched on the collection! Jenna went backstage and was totally taken aback by how relaxed Nicola was and got a great interview, which I can’t wait to see!!
So much bright orange and gorgeous Champagne colours with the standard black for evening wear. Absolutely stunning! Feathers made a show, which is always really cool to see, and the white-feathered vest with the sheer back panel rocked my world! Oh and the ruffles! I love a good ruffle or seventy.
As the final, amazing gowns came out, me heart skipped a beat and god damn Cinderella wants to go to the ball! Made me want to be a girly girl and have boobs and long pretty hair. Speaking of boobs, one of the models had the biggest rack I have ever seen on a catwalk and eyebrows raised and mouths went into “oh!” as she bounced down the catwalk. It was totally hot. Nicola had so much sexy structure and powerful shoulders and detail but he never compromises on how a woman’s body should be shown, proving you can still look womanly and sexy but also as powerful and confident, as you want. Modern dominatrix with more class and less whips and PVC. The kind of woman I want to be when I finally grow up.
Then we went to McDonalds. So fashion. We ran into a model from swim week, who was eating. Yeah, models eat. Speaking of food! My god, where are the canapés Paul from oyster, one of our favorite dudes to party was starving and he actually ate the stupid misery bar from the Grazia It bag. The whole time mouthfuls were interrupted with “oh god this is horrible” and “hideous” but hey, we are famished out here! If shit gets dire today, im ordering a pizza onsite. See me make friends then!! The wine is good though. Free wine is the shit.
Went to the Wayne Cooper Party, had a drink and headed home. Beauty sleep? I hope so.
Anyway, the first day was pretty good, we had a great time and catching up with peeps from other trips is always fun! But we are going to make some new friends. We are planning on trying to infiltrate the blogger/tweeter camp and have a crazy awesome week!
Stay tuned
Love CA and Jenna

Wow. So Fashion is like, so hectic aiiight.
Jenna and I started the day with a mini freak out session at headquarters, followed by my awe over her amazing boots! Then we busted ass down to the Overseas Passenger Terminal and proceeded to be told the wrong directions for everywhere. Day one not so smooth, with the seating allocation system running amuck and having no idea whether we can see the shows or not! Missed Camilla and Marc but by all accounts it was a sexy, strong collection. Bec and Bridge followed and was utterly gorgeous! I am obsessed with the tasselled wristbands every model was sporting. So sexy and chic with elements from past collections all plastered together, then polished up to something shiny and new but still with the familiar Bec and Bridge rock ‘n’ roll girl flair.
Really punchy colours, in wearable tones that will be in my wardrobe in a few months. Especially the split sleeve blazers. Way kewl. Music by Santogold, Ladyhawke and La Roux. Very awesome collection and killer show, even on tippy toes surrounded by a throng of people. I managed to steal some candy from a gift bag. Foraging for food seems so animalistic but at Fashion week, that’s all you can hope for!
Then we pissed around looking for answers to our seating allocation problem, only to be told by the charming young man at the desk, we will have had to RSVP to “Ginger and Spice” if we wanted seats. Damn I thought scary, sporty and baby put me on the list?
We snuck into Ginger and Smart after the show had started and enjoyed the very chill and sexy music that didn’t distract from the beautiful clothes… but must have distracted one young model and she took a trip and might not be ready to walk again until after fall. Models eating shit on the catwalk is what us ugly people live for.
Flair is the word of the day here. While some has been in abundance, most is pretty ABD and quite tired. But hey, everyone is in his or her Monday best to mark the occasion and I have never seen so much make up and high heel action before lunchtime in my life!
So many crazy outfits and chitter chattering fashion types pouting around The Rocks, almost uniformly head to toe in black.
Outfit wise, we have seen a lot of the “it” girl style, characterised by black, layers, leathers, leggings, intense platform booties and heels and long “I don’t give a fuck but this took three hours” hair.
The boys are busting out the very best of street style fresh from the blogs of the whole wide world. Light denim, ripped denim, double denim, “vintage” “opshop” big words being tossed around.
We have been snapping the street style, as have ever other cutie with an SLR. It is quite fun! Highlights today include Ms Fitz, Mary and Phoenix and Nina from Anthem
Shit dudes, its only lunchtime.
Peace out and wish us luck!
CA and Jenna

The Grand Social team are very excited to welcome Maise to the family. Maise brings with her the new W09 collection 'Eerie Indiana', inspired by the 1970s cult horror classics such as Hitchcock's 'The Birds' & Jamie Curtis' lead character in 'Halloween' - like the leading ladies of this films, the Maise woman this season is just like every other girl on the outside, but a little strange & twisted on the inside.
This sense of innocence & paranoia are evoked in soft & ethereal printd silks, cream & blood red hues in sheer chiffon blouses & sandwashed silks in seaweed green & black. Combined with these are subtle details throughout - pleating on the pockets, winged sleeves & preppy striped cashmere knits - demonstrating the tailored strengths Maise has become renown for.
Designer Claire Greaves began her career at the international powerhouse Top Shop, honing her skills in the printing division. This influential period led her to strike out on her own when she returned to Australia, 'Maise' stemming from a childhood nickname. Touted as 'one to watch' by US Nylon since the labels inception, Maise has fast established itself as one of Australia's top fashion labels.

Sydney-based fashion label Strummer only launched last year but are moving in leaps & bounds, launching their own online store this week at GS yay! Strummer is designed with longevity in mind, creating ageless look inspired by folk music, modern day culture & mystical muses. The result? A collection full of leather, lace, denim & crochet with a classic vintage feel. We are loving the adjustable leather shorts that can be worn high-waisted or at the hips, the crocheted bodysuits & the cute woven leather kicks. We spoke with designer Edwina Hagon to find out more...
Tell us about the creation of Strummer the label:
Gina & I met working at another Sydney fashion label in 2007 & realised we had very similar style & love of culture & music, so we got together & first started making clothes for our friends which was really successful & gave us the confidence to really give it a go. We sold our first range last year & have had a great response so far!
What are the inspirations behind your current collection?
Each range is based around a short story we write. This collection is about a girl who stays with her old aunties for the weekend, while bored she wanders down the path & finds an old chest. In the chest she finds old military attire. She decides to add her own Gypsy flare to the clothes & our collection is a reflection of this happy marriage of military & Gypysy.
Favourite pieces from the collection?
The Freedom Fields Dress, the Sergeant P's Jacket & the Rickitie pants! Can't wait to rock out in those!
Who is the ultimate Strummer girl?
A girl who is confident enough to mix & match her own style & wear it well.
