Catherine McNeil stars in a ten page editorial spread in the latest issue of Vogue Italia. The editorial for the October issue was shot by the much loved American photographer Greg Kadel, who last shot McNeil alongside Abbey Lee Kershaw in the 'Come As You Are' editorial for the 50th anniversary issue of Australian Vogue. Rumour has it McNeil is currently back home in Australia to shoot an upcoming Vogue cover - we can't wait to see the results!

Well New York Fashion Week is officially alive and kicking and we have dragged ourselves across the Pacific to bring you all the hottest trends, gossip and Australian action in the Big Apple.

Karen Walker’s latest New York offering is being hailed as her greatest to date and we say hell yeah! The collection mixed nautical stripes, Edwardian frills and a dash of 70’s psychedelia to delicious effect along with Walker’s trademark crisp lady-like aesthetic. Her seventh back-to-back season in New York, Walker told us after the show she feels very much at home showing in the US.

Charlotte Ronson (sister of music producer Mark and DJ and ex-LiLo lover Sam) sent a celeb friendly collection of acid-wash bodysuits, strong shoulders and asymmetrical party dresses down the runway for her latest collection. Rachel Rutt walked in the show and here’s some gossip for you, we hear organisers closed the VIP entrance early in fear that Ms Lohan (in town this week) would make a last minute entrance.

British designers Preen shunned the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week to return to New York this season and we’re sure glad they did. The collection played with antique lace, soft silk de chine and dense ruffles, lending a romantic air to the blazers, blouses and patchwork dresses and pants.

Alexander Wang has become the American fashion It-boy for his ‘off-duty model’ style of tough biker chic meets new grunge meets all-America sportswear. This season, Wang has exchanged his black leather for a buttery caramel in a statement biker jacket and tie-front shorts as seen on Abbey Lee. Wang continued with last season’s khaki in the form of dresses, oversized jackets and rolled low-rise baggy pants.

The Wang after-party proved to be the hottest ticket so far this week with an evening filled with non-stop celeb spotting heaven! Held in a fully functioning petrol station, complete with candy stocked shelves for the taking, Mischa Barton, Pixie Geldolf, Erin Wasson, Alice Dellal and Jared Letto were letting very loose to Courtney Love (who we managed to catch during a very entertaining pre-party sound check, demonstrating she hasn’t lost that bid-girl attitude) and Santogold live. Amazing!

We must say we were rather impressed when Prince Frederik popped up on the evening news last night sporting a Commes Des Garcons sweater whilst thoroughly enjoying a tour of the Sydney Olympic Park.

On closer inspection we discovered he had teamed his ensemble with white Adidas trainers but we think it works in a cute Jerry Seinfeld kind of way, and he gets extra points for being wise enough to wear comfortable shoes for what was no doubt a lengthy tour.

Look out Princess Mary, there's a new fashionable royal on the radar!

It's time to lose the miniskirts girls, because this summer is all about the short.

At Charlotte Ronson they came cuffed and belted with a matching blazer. Alexander Wang went for a slinky black pair with a triangle-patterned cuff or in quilted denim, while Marc Jacobs' version came satin and spotted or frilled all over for a vintage lingerie feel.

Don't be afraid to have fun with colours and fabrics and you can keep things balanced by teaming with a sheer long sleeved blouse, a tucked in baggy tee or a loose crop top.

TREND: GOLD POWER

Join the gold rush this summer by adding some serious bling to your wardrobe, try and all-out gold look with a luxe brocade, lace or silk or go for gold detailing with beading, sequins and studs.

TREND: PASTELS

In keeping with the current 80s revival, pastels have hit the New York runway with force this season. We love the full matching look but if you want to test the waters, start with a pastel cotton shirt in pale peach or mint, worn open with rolled sleeves or tied at the waist. Or try a pastel pink or blue swimsuit in a vintage cut.

Paris, Cairo, New York... romantic notions of faraway cities pieced together from Chanel advertisements, Woody Allen films, Francoise Hardy songs, hazy black and whites of the Eiffel Tower, Elizabeth Taylor's Cleopatra and Frank Sinatra's classic tune, the real thing could never hope to compare. And so came the notion of Limedrop's new Spring/Summer 09/10 collection 'Places I've Never Been', inspired by Nathan's growing collection of vintage tourist tees of cities the design couple aspire to someday visit.

The collection has the feel of faded photographs of summer holidays abroad with a muted palette of pastel peaches and blues, pearled metallics, grey marles, tans and denim blues.

The Limedrop man this season is dapper yet relaxed in oversized linen shirts, casual jersey blazers, rolled chinos, draped cotton cardigans, sheer jersey tees and cuffed shorts.

The Limedrop girl is sophisticated but up for some fun in floaty fluted collar blouses, oversized shirt dresses, jersey dinner jackets, draped boleros, highwaisted funnel leg trousers, oversized circle cardigans and a linen duffel bag to carry her maps and travel guides.

We love the very cute tourist kitsch graphic tee prints created for the duo by Friedel Meyer-Ebert of Small Rhino.

Join in the game of peek-a-boo with the sexy cut-out trend seen everywhere in the New York shows. The perfect way to show some bit of flesh without giving the whole game away!

Willow worked the cut-out trend with this bold-shouldered print dress with heavy metallic piping and two sexy peek-a-boo surprises at the back.

Erin Wasson x RVCA used little cut-outs for some hot glimpses of flesh in an oversized cream jumper.

Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen both featured coats with dramatic geometric cut-outs, not ideal for protection from an afternoon shower, but they’re worth the compromise!
