In a season where nearly every major fashion house opted out of the expense of a runway show in favour look books, Chanel demonstrated Karl Lagerfeld's assertion in the latest issue of Oyster magazine, 'I was never told or asked about the recession, I don’t know what it means. The owner of Chanel came to me and said, ‘2009 – no problem for you – you do whatever you want,'' choosing instead to 'reinvent the mystique' of Chanel with a runway show presented on the boardwalks of the Venice Lido beach at sunset, one of Coco's favourite summer holiday spots. 350 guests took in the show from the comfort of white sunbeds.

The collection played with a palette of cream, brown, gold and deep red in rich laces, lames, brocades and embellishment alongside some nautical and sailor boy looks and short finger-wave wigs.

Above: Chanel's clear plastic boots brought immediately to mind a similar pair showcased by E L L E R Y at RAFW this year - yes E L L E R Y did it first! While E L L E R Y's boot features a stack heel and the oh so sweet gold lipstick heel (coincidentally reminscent in concept to Chanel's 90mm gun heels from their Cruise 09 collection), Chanel's version are much lower and featured in black and gold with lace edging and the same cap toe.

E L L E R Y's Oregon Plastic Boots will be available with the Je Suis a Vous collection at $1400 (dates to be confirmed).
