We heart Viktor & Rolf Spring 2010

12 November, 2009

After a couple of slightly lacklustre seasons Viktor & Rolf are back with a bang and doing what they do best - pure, unadulterated theatrics.

Their latest collection, showcased at Paris Fashion Week had the drama and aesthetics of an extravagant night at the opera with tulle, tulle and more tulle and a popping palette of bright pastels played off against black and cream. Actually, make that a rock opera, with Ziggy Stardust makeup and Grace Jones hair (a trend first seen at RAFW this year at the Konstantina Mittas show art directed by Lyn and Tony).

The designers let loose and went crazy with colour, shape and form whilst managing to incorporate some of the biggest trends of the season with the lingerie style bed jackets, camisoles and silk boxer shorts, the assymetrical shoulder dresses, the cinched gathering and the draped front-split skirt.

Horsting and Snoeren told press the literally took to the tulle with chainsaws to create the dramatic shapes, we love the 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'-esque watermelon coloured evening gown - a childhood favourite from their early years in Holland perhaps?
