Day one of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week Part 2

27 April, 2009

So on our return to the land of the fashionable peeps and creeps we raced in to check out the beautiful Arnsdorf show. Jade Sarita Arnott truely outdid herself, sticking to the so far successful and well adored format of her label's beautiful, clean looks. Lots of gorgeous soft colours and really cool silhouettes. Totally dug the asymmetrical theme so prevalent with the parades so far. Thoroughly impressed with the one sleeved all in one suit, with a collar and a nice low waist. Pretty and androgynous, the collection made me feel so light and lovely. Coral pinks in both a subdued tone and a Miami eye burning bright have popped up all over the catwalks and mixed with black, white and khaki they are working overtime in the chic Olympics. Was kind of ironic seeing the crowd admire so many soft hues when they attended en masse in a sea of black? Nice High waisted soft looking denim in a really lovely shade of blue that cracked the spectrum of shades perfectly. Ahh I am in love with Arnsdorf. If only right? I am interested to see how the shapes and colours look on the average human and away from catwalk lights!
We then retreated back to the office after we received word Ruby Smallbone had dropped in some gear.. Much to our excited squeals! We skipped Wayne Cooper but we hear it was very Wayne indeed, as only Wayne can be!
So, dressed in our finest Ruby, and feeling confident and sassy we headed back to the waterfront and shuffled into our second row seats at Therese Rawsthorne. Jenna and I couldn’t have been more baffled at the people claiming the front row seats and refusing to budge, even when they were clearly not in their seats. Being bumped back from front row would be like getting up for an award at a high school assembly having heard the wrong name! I have officially decided fashion week is like high school but everyone is dressed for the formal everyday. It is kind of intense. Certainly a change from the relaxed and holiday style of Gold Coast Swim, which was more like fashion summer camp.
That said, i'm not crying everything is way cool! Jenna and CA are totally a team and man; we are getting the job done! Jenna has the balls to ask intimidating attractive people for photos and asks them questions. I am way too chicken shit so I just brashly point at them in the crowds and lines haha. So we saw the satorialist and he is a little cool! Get it? Anyway, Therese was amazing; I enjoyed the lack of nipples, which was a nice change. The only time I have seen U-Bra’s and support briefs looking sexy. Lots of soft billowy blouses and white. I loved the music and it was kind of nice to hear a song from start to finish instead of a crazy mash up. So the models chilled down the runway, in to hurry at all, which gave us ample time to soak up the beauty and serenity to the sounds of Animal Collective. When the models all came back out to the pounds of “Heads will roll” by the yeah yeah yeahs, I was pumped again and ready to see the amazing Nicola Finetti!
Unfortunately, the entire evening schedule was running pretty much an hour late, which was horse shit as I had to wait in line behind the worlds most mundane girls who talked about the dumbest shit for the better part of half an hour. It was fucking weeeeeeaaaaak dudes.
But Nicola proved to be worth the wait and totally rocked my world. The celebs were aplenty in the front row- Jonathan Pease, Alex Perry, Lara Bingle and Sarah Murdoch to name a few. They looked pretty psyched on the collection! Jenna went backstage and was totally taken aback by how relaxed Nicola was and got a great interview, which I can’t wait to see!!
So much bright orange and gorgeous Champagne colours with the standard black for evening wear. Absolutely stunning! Feathers made a show, which is always really cool to see, and the white-feathered vest with the sheer back panel rocked my world! Oh and the ruffles! I love a good ruffle or seventy.
As the final, amazing gowns came out, me heart skipped a beat and god damn Cinderella wants to go to the ball! Made me want to be a girly girl and have boobs and long pretty hair. Speaking of boobs, one of the models had the biggest rack I have ever seen on a catwalk and eyebrows raised and mouths went into “oh!” as she bounced down the catwalk. It was totally hot. Nicola had so much sexy structure and powerful shoulders and detail but he never compromises on how a woman’s body should be shown, proving you can still look womanly and sexy but also as powerful and confident, as you want. Modern dominatrix with more class and less whips and PVC. The kind of woman I want to be when I finally grow up.
Then we went to McDonalds. So fashion. We ran into a model from swim week, who was eating. Yeah, models eat. Speaking of food! My god, where are the canapés Paul from oyster, one of our favorite dudes to party was starving and he actually ate the stupid misery bar from the Grazia It bag. The whole time mouthfuls were interrupted with “oh god this is horrible” and “hideous” but hey, we are famished out here! If shit gets dire today, im ordering a pizza onsite. See me make friends then!! The wine is good though. Free wine is the shit.
Went to the Wayne Cooper Party, had a drink and headed home. Beauty sleep? I hope so.
Anyway, the first day was pretty good, we had a great time and catching up with peeps from other trips is always fun! But we are going to make some new friends. We are planning on trying to infiltrate the blogger/tweeter camp and have a crazy awesome week!
Stay tuned
Love CA and Jenna
