Our newest label is from Sydney local and former GS employee Kyla Crozier. We were all pretty amazed when we saw her Summer collection, inspired by the colours of the Australian summer, and we're sure you will be too.
Where were you working before you created your own label?
Before starting the label I was working as the design assistant at ‘Cohen et Sabine’, this was my dream job and I had such a beautiful time working there.
What made you decide to get into fashion design?
I was always creating growing up and have always loved beautiful things. When I was young I expressed this creativity through dance, however the highlight for me was always finding out what we’d be wearing! I think I began to realise I wanted to be in fashion when I was 15, I remember sitting with my girlfriends one day, all excitedly talking about and sketching what we were going to wear to the formal, I loved it. Since then I haven’t looked towards any other career.

What is your brand philosophy? Tell us about your SS11 collection.
The inspiration for summer began with the colour palette. When driving home to where I grew up I pass through the National park, the landscape is beautiful. The colours of the huge gums, native flowers, burnt trunks of trees after the summer back burning and the bright blue sky cracking through the tree tops is where I drew the colour palette from.
This theme began to grow inside my thoughts but only came to its full fruition when I stumbled across the Australiana tea towels. I took these kitsch Australiana tea towels and adapted these into the Flora print, combining different flora and fauna from all of the tea towels into one original print. Keeping with the Australiana theme I decided to create an original print of my own, for this I looked to the bottlebrush flower. Sketching out sketch after sketch I developed a modern floral print, keeping the colours quite minimal the print became a subtle take on a traditional floral. So in short the inspiration came from home and the environment around me, that’s how I came to the collection name ‘where the heart is’ like the saying ‘Home is where the heart is’.

Who is the Kyla Crozier customer?
My customer is someone who loves fashion but isn’t driven by trends, they are looking for unique individual pieces that offer them an effortless way of dressing.
What’s next for your label?
The winter collection is what you’ll see next, really looking forward to sharing it with everyone.
