New label alert: MIROSLAV

25 August, 2011

We chat to Andrew from MIROSLAV, the new luxury mens underwear label and the latest brand to hit The Grand Social.

How did MIROSLAV get started?
MIROSLAV is the creation of Miro Kubicek, Czechoslovakian raised ex-underwear model. Since arriving in Australia in 2000, Kubicek opened his front-of-house and hospitality management company in 2006, servicing Australian Fashion Week, Sydney Fashion Festival, as well as several overseas events including New Zealand Fashion Week, Berlin Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Week.

What made you decide to get into fashion design?
Having researched and provided services to the Fashion industry for several years, it made sense to have a product and a product that wasn’t yet there. This is the first luxury men’s underwear label to come out of Australia. It’s about applying the same quality standards we have for other types of clothing to underwear - after all, for most men that region is very important and deserves quality and style: they don’t call them the crown jewels for nothing!

Where did the name of your label come from?
MIROSLAV is the full version of Miro’s birth name. The name has European roots.

What is your brand philosophy?
The 3 pillars of the brand are Quality, Sexiness & Humour. Quality product, designs that make the wearer feel sexy, and humourous communications.

Tell us about your SS11 collection.
The next collection will be a variation of colours, but will remain classic by design, and as much attention as possible made to providing a quality product.

Who is the MIROSLAV customer?
We have many differnt types of customers as men’s underwear is often bought by both men and women. There is a statistic that says that, on average, men buy underwear for only 19 years of their lives.

What’s next for your label?
Product wise: expanding the range of underwear and move into sleepwear
Region wise: expansion to Berlin & Montreal & Toronto (three of the largest men’s underwear-wearing cities in the world). All these regions of very fond of Australian products also.
