Jordan Askill previews new collection at London Fashion Week

4 October, 2010

Jordan Askill previewed his new collection of jewellery and sculpture at London Fashion Week from September 17th-23rd. Askill took part in LFW's NEWGEN designer program after being awarded support from the British Fashion Council and Topshop.

Jordan Askill's installation, entitled, There's No Place Like Home, included his second full range of fine jewellery and sculptural pieces, presented on custom-built cabinets that featured built-in monitors to play video work. A second film project also accompanied the collection: a collaborative work between Jordan Askill's film-maker brother, Daniel Askill, and musician George Barnett of These New Puritans. This film work, created entirely in 3D, is based on Jordan Askill's renowned "Horse Wave Sculpture", a recurring motif for the designer.

There's No Place Like Home is centred around three characters: the horse, swallow and the tiger. First manifesting in sculptural form created using rapid prototyping followed by various finishing techniques, the figures then evolve into fine jewellery pieces. Rings, bracelets, neckpieces and cuffs are formed from 18KT gold and silver, and are embellished with rubys, diamonds, and hand-carved rock crystal. A special jewellery/display cabinet to house the precious pieces is sculpted out of resin in three different colours representing white alabaster, black onyx and hand-carved rock crystal. Modern technology is used alongside fine, artisan techniques of the past to create a collection of work that is entirely new yet possesses an innate nostalgia. Thus, the world is complete: There's No Place Like Home.
