Self-proclaimed "music blog for the people who don't have time for music blogs", The Perfect Five does a good job of living up to its mantra. A weekly update of tunes from a variety of genres, The Perfect Five posts (or delivers to your inbox) a selection of 5 songs, one of each category: hyped, covered, classic, remixed and loved. So, each week, 5 more songs are curated into one neat little package for readers and subscribers to enjoy, contest, reminisce, detest or download, depending on your own tastes and preferences.
The selections are undeniably hipster (a la Arcade Fire, Memory Tapes, HTDW) but with a good dose of the accessible, and its just pretty consistently fun.
For me, being a sucker for nostalgia and just generally daggy, my favourite category would be "classic" (Split Enz, Aretha Franklin), while I enjoy the insights offered by "hyped" and "loved" tracks.
The Perfect Five will definitely provide a fun snapshot of current tastes and an easy reference to share with friends. This is the kind of thing that makes the world a more fun and inspiring place.
