New label alert: we chat with Kirrily Johnston about her new line

As soon as we heard Kirrily Johnston was starting a new basics line, we knew that we had to get it online. So we are very excited to share with you her debut collection of luxurious jersey pieces that take those everyday wardrobe staples and reinvent them with Kirrily's signature touch of volume, draping and details.
We chatted with the designer about the line, her favourite outfit and working with hot new model Bambi Northwood-Blyth.

What sparked your move into basics wear?
KJ: Starting Kj by Kirrily Johnston was a move to create more diverse product terrain for my brand. Our unisex pieces are becoming increasingly popular and I wanted to offer more at that end of the market, plus it's what I want to wear. It incorporates the mainline silhouettes but in more casual pieces.

We love all of the soft jerseys - tell us about your choice of fabrication.
KJ: I love jersey. Its drapes beautifully and suits everyone , it was really
the only choice for my first collection.

This collection is designed to be worn layered, what is your favourite outfit from the collection to wear?
KJ: It’s hard to choose only one because there are so many great outfit combinations within the collection – but this summer I’ll be wearing the Kj Tube Skirt with the Kj Mesh Back Tank and Kj T Bra, with the Kj Cape draped over my shoulders.
Tell us about your choice of Bambi Northwood-Blyth for your look book?
KJ: I met Bambi at a music festival and she only had 3 Polaroids at the time. I knew as soon as I saw her that she was my girl. Her face is compelling and Georges Antoni captured her essence. He is a genius. Bambi is a unique beauty and she is a cool girl...it's the package.

What are you looking forward to most this summer?
KJ: Decorating my new apartment and enjoying the sunshine at the beach.
