Beauty trend: divine autumn colours

29 June, 2010

A new beauty trend is in the air. As the colours of the leaves turn to wonderfully rich browns, hazels, ambers and bronze we have also seen the welcome return of classic autumn colours to the world of makeup. Hidden away since the 1980s, browns in all their many manifestations are reappearing throughout the fashion world.

Chloé have been working it for several seasons, reaching their most glamourous at their Fall 09 show, with a mix of bronze, taupe, chocolate and golden hues sculpted on the eyes, cheeks and temples to give that constant sense of super soft 80s lighting. Alexander Wang was also working the trend at his Fall 2010 show, in his own grungey take, with brown eyeshadow over the upper and lower lid, no mascara and a matt nude lip. In the most recent Resort 2011 look books, 3.1 Phillip Lim is working the golden brown look (on a side note, does anyone else think that Kim Novak looks like what Lindsay Lohan could have turned into if she hadn’t have totally derailed?) while Richard Nicoll features the lovely Julia Nobis with a matt amber hued lip and soft brown eyeshadow.

So, we think it’s time for you give it a whirl! Browns are so soft and flattering, experiment with some metallics and some matts and try out some spiced coral or amber colours on the lips. These may be classic autumn colours, but we can’t wait to wear them in summer too...
