David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone took out ‘Menswear Designer of the Year’ for 2010 at fashion’s prestigious CFDA awards last week. Their taste for simple, well-crafted, modern designs has helped to skyrocket them to the top of the New York scene in just a few years. It is exiting to see a reasonably priced label making such an impact in the industry.

Their current Fall 2010 collection, presented back in March, was inspired by mountaineers of the 1920s. Designed to be worn heavily layered, the collection featured checked shirts worn underneath knitted cardigans and jackets and then layered with a piece of thick outerwear on top, all in a common rich colour palette. Among the many plaid pieces there were some innovative ideas, like the shearling neck gaiters and the cashmere jackets with rib-knit lapels.

Their upcoming Spring 2011 collection will be presented in New York in September. As a big fan of Neville and Wainwright, I cannot wait to see what comes next from Rag & Bone.
