We asked model scout and photographer Lewis Johns for his take on the unique casting used in Kirrily Johnston's tribal inspired runway show...
The RAFW 2010 Kirrily Johnston show featured a refreshingly diverse group of models. The cultural blend of faces really gave the collection more energy and a sense of sophistication. We’ve seen many overseas labels increasing the amount of diversity on their runways, and it’s good to see Australia is keeping up with the times! Seriously, Asian models are so hot right now.
A number of the models used in the show, particularly the boys, didn’t quite fit the ‘traditional’ model brief. As if hand picked off the street, they seemed to be significant to the designer’s personal vision, and although some of them were not the traditional six foot plus… they were still beautiful!

Would you like to see more ethnic diversity on the Australian runways and in our magazines' fashion editorials?
