RAFW: Aussie beach babes inspire Jayson Brunsdon's latest collection

7 May, 2010

Jayson Brunsdon is known for taking his inspirations from classic, timeless beauties of yesteryear. Past collections have been built around style icons of the 1950s and 60s such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Maria Callas. But this year Brunsdon surprised us all when he revealed in an interview with Lara Bingle that she, infact, was one of his inspirations for his latest collection, along with Elle McPherson and Jennifer Hawkins.

Unexpected, sure, but this turn towards the “classic, summer Australian girls” has brought a freshness, a youthfulness, and a kind of effortless polish that these three Aussie beach babes all employ.
The show was an intimate affair, with two rows of catwalk allowing for more guests to get that front row view. We loved the blush brocade shift dress, gathered and belted at the waist, the star-patterned lace shirt, the ivory, belted long sequin gown and the collarless jacket and gathered skirt ensemble.

In the interview with Bingle (as part of her video blog coverage for Harper’s Bazaar) Brunsdon said he is continually inspired by the idea of “dressing girls as actresses, they’re all like extras in a fabulous movie.”
