Ikea, Absolut Vodka and ABBA. There was a time when these were the three best things to come out of Sweden.
But in a land where daylight fades quickly and the weather is far from hospitable, young Swedes are finding a knack for using creative things to pass the time. With an absolute barrage of fabulous talent coming from the epicentre of Scandinavian cool, the fashion world has been blessed with the likes of Carin Wester, Acne, MiniMarket and Whyred.
And now two more of our very favourite Norse design gods, Cheap Monday and Ann-Sofie Back, have joined forces to birth a collaboration.
Ann-Sofie Back and her signature subversive style of draping, cutting and layered textures stands out perfectly against a backdrop of typically clean and tailored looks so prominent in Swedish Design. Örjan Anderss could not have found a better fit for his everyday denim delights, even more so considering Ann-Sofie's history of successful collaborations, most recently with Topshop.
Featuring stylised, whiskered denim, mesh and shredded, holey jersey pieces, the range is a pleasing taste of more to come. Back joined the Cheap Monday design team in May last year and her own full collection for the label will debut for Spring 2011.
The duct tape details and cut outs on olives, greys and black, with washed up blue denim, gives the range a streetstyle cross steam punk vibe, a futuristic take on the typical rip/torn grunge punk look. Futuristic fashion Ragnarök? Just maybe.
