Have we discovered Garance Doré’s secret inspiration?

Last year we discussed our delight at having the opportunity to briefly meet the wonderful French blogger Garance Doré at RAFW.
For those of you not already aware of Ms Doré, she is a street style photographer and illustrator who collates her favourite works on her hugely popular blog, Garance Doré. She photographs the most beautiful, chic and stylish women around the world. She is also the partner of that other very famous street photographer, Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist.
While trawling YouTube last night for old favourite clips from the ‘90s, we came across Natalie Merchant’s Carnival video clip. And we made a unique discovery. Natalie Merchant strolling the streets of New York taking photographs of the people she discovers looks uncannily like Garance doing just the same thing.
The curly dark hair, those lovely hooded eyes, that same tomboy style and a penchant for discovering beautiful and interesting subjects on the streets, we have to ask: was Garance a fan of Carnival in her early days? Or is it just a funny coincidence?
