Oscar Fashion Starts Soon: What We Hope They'll Wear

7 March, 2010

The Oscars red carpet time is just about to kick off, but before it does, we thought we'd pick out which Fall 2010 gowns we'd pick out for all of our favourite stars...

Above: Penelopé Cruz - best supporting actress nominee for Nine.

This Toni Maticevski gown deserves an Oscar red carpet moment, and we're not just saying that because he's Australian.  Penelopé loves a floaty full skirted number and these colours would be beautiful against her olive skin.

Carey Mulligan - best actress nominee for An Education.

This is Carey's first Oscar's so she will want to make her mark.  This Caroline Herrera gown would be beautiful against her porcelain skin and dark elfin locks.

Maggie Gyllenhaal - best supporting actress nominee for Crazy Heart.

Maggie is never one to play it safe, she always treats us to something a little bit interesting.  She would look divine in this long sleeved, ruffled Oscar de la Renta creation, with smokey brown eyes and her dark locks in a loose chignon.

Sandra Bullock - best actress nominee for The Blind Side.

Sandra, on the other hand, is one who should keep her risk-taking to a minimum and opt for something elegant and timeless, like this beautiful black and gold gown from Carolina Herrera.

Kate Winslet - presenting.

Yes, this dress does scream Kate Winslet and it just may be too obvious a choice, but we couldn't resist.  This Badgley Mishka gown ticks the right boxes for Kate: body hugging design, stunning colour and beautiful detailing, she would look just beautiful.

Cameron Diaz - presenting.

It may be a little bit attention-grabbing considering she's not nominated, but we would just love to see Cameron in this sequined gold design from Balmain, she's the only one who could pull it off.  We hope Rachel Zoe agrees.

Diane Kruger - star of Best Picture nominee Inglorious Basterds.

Diane never puts a foot wrong on the red carpet, and this may be a little bit safe for her, but her sinewy shape would look killer in this Oscar de la Renta gown - divine.

Tina Fey - presenting.

Tina got quite a lot of stick for her Golden Globes choice, and we love Tina and don't like people mean about her, so we have chosen a safe bet with a simple and elegant strapless gown from Carolina Herrera.

Nicole Kidman - star of multiple nominee Nine.

We didn't love Nicole's Golden Globe choice, so for the Oscar's we take her back to what she does so well, with this dreamy, cascading strapless gown from Marchesa.

Kate Hudson - Nicole Kidman - star of multiple nominee Nine.

Kate is another client of uber-stylist Rachel Zoe, so we know whatever she picks will be good.  Kate got caught out by the rain at the Golden Globes, resulting in her clunky white platforms getting much more attention than was intended.  This elegant, shimmering gown from Badgley Mishka would make us happily forgive and forget.
